Protecting your smile & oral health with advanced care & capabilities.
Infection and tooth decay are primary reasons we all need good oral hygiene and capable dentistry. Decay can penetrate deep into the tooth, or infection can destroy a significant amount of tooth or even surrounding bone structure. When this happens, the tooth needs to be removed, via a simple extraction or an oral surgery procedure.
Why might you need oral surgery?
Extraction and other types of oral surgery may also be necessary when there is insufficient room for teeth, such as wisdom teeth. An “impacted” tooth can be already be in place (erupted), remain just below the gum surface or be partially or completely stuck into bone. Impacted teeth can damage the roots of neighboring teeth and promote decay and infection... and even extend infection into bone structure, which is serious.
Optimal outcomes depend on planning & skill. Because of varying difficulty and the need to avoid causing damage and prevent and/or abate infection, tooth extraction requires a high level of skill and capability... and precise treatment planning. In addition to X-rays, we use 3D images and data from our cone-beam CT scanner for complete information about the tooth’s length, shape, position and relationship to bone and other tissue. Based on that, we craft a treatment plan that’s both effective and appropriate for your unique predicament.
Advanced capability & know-how for top-quality results.
Removing the tooth may require opening up gum tissue, separating tissue connecting tooth to bone, removing bone, sectioning the tooth into smaller pieces or some combination of these and other techniques.
